Each type of magnet has a specific production process consisting of a series of gradual steps.
Common to most technologies is powder matallurgy, ie a process in which a mixture of very fine powders is mixed in exact proportion and is pressed into a mold and then sintered at a high temperature. This creates a very hard product, like ceramics, which can not be processed with conventional machining. Therefore it is necesary, with a few exceptions, to define and produce the exact shape and dimensions of the magnet already in this manufacturing phase. Subsequently only the fine grinding is possible f.i. of flat or cylindric shaped surfaces.
Magnets FeNdB type are prone to corrosion, so they must be covered with a protective layer. Exceptions are stainless magnets HAST produced by special technology.
